TEHRAN — People have donated some 1.43 trillion rials (nearly $34 million) to victims of the recent floods in Iran, IRNA news agency reported on Monday.

According to Iran’s Red Crescent Society, in addition to the financial aids, people have made in-kind contributions of 770 billion rials (nearly $18.5 million) as well.

In order to provide the flood-stricken people with home appliances some 4 trillion rials (nearly $95 million) is needed, the report added.

Alireza Asgarian deputy director of Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation announced on April 24 Iranian donors have contributed an amount of 1.47 trillion rials (nearly $35 million) to those affected by flood.

Extreme rainfall, starting on March 19, has caused flooding in 28 out of 31 provinces affecting 42,269,129 inhabitants in 253 cities and causing widespread damage to municipal facilities, including roads, sewage systems, health centers, hospitals, etc.

The floods have left 78 people dead and 1,137 injured. As many as 295,787 people have been displaced.
